Opti Girls Clinic

It was so great to run a two-day girl camp with 18 super talented Optimist girls from all over Sydney at the club. We are also very grateful with the 18ft footer league for so very kindly getting involved.
Big thanks go in particular to Jessica Crisp (4-time Olympian) for a very inspirational speech that kicked things off showing these girls how far they can take their sailing career.
To top things up we also welcomed Yvette Heritage skipper of the mighty ‘Noakes Group 18ft skiff boat’ sponsored by #gill #marineplus who came along to the club with a fantastic crew of guys: John Walton and Tom Clout to take all these young girls for exhilarating rides around shark island.
Under close supervision from club coaches Alex Zimmermann, Mina Ferguson, Bec Hancock and Wallis Brewer these girls were able to build new friendships, improve their sailing and go faster than ever!

Disruption to access to the Club

Road and parking disruption
We have been advised, by Woollahra Council, that effective immediately the car park at Lynne Park will be used as a COVID drive through testing site for the next two weeks.  The testing site will consume at least half of the available parking.  Traffic will enter the car park from Vickery Ave.  This is likely to mean long delays on Vickery Ave.

WSC Optis shine in the ACT

Last weekend 17 of our Optimist open, intermediate and green fleet sailors travelled to Canberra to compete at the ACT State championships for 2020. Even though the conditions were wet and cold; it was a very successful weekend for our team, with many achievements and two wins for WSC.
Isaac Freeman won the open fleet with a commanding lead and an 11-point difference over his nearest competitor.  Woollahra Sailor, Jacob Marks, took the next spot on the podium giving WSC a 1 2 finish in the open fleet.  Adding to the dominance Hanako Tomishima finished as the number 1 girl in the event.
As evidence of our strong optimist pathway, Goro Tomishima also won the intermediate fleet which was a great achievement considering he only began sailing in our tackers program last October.
A big congratulations to our entire Opti fleet, which has grown to be one of

Use of the Ramp, Pontoon and Jetty

The ramp, pontoon, and jetty, located adjest to the Woollahra Sailing Club, is owned, operated, and managed by Transport for NSW (TfNSW).  The Club has a licence to use the facility.  Under that licence the Club has an obligation to maintain the facility and keep it safe.
The ramp and pontoon are available to the public.  However, the only approved public use is the launching and retreival of dinghies on hand held trailers.  The Club and Club members have the same access rights as the public.
The advice from TfNSW is that the pontoon may be used for drop off and pick up.  Maximum mooring time is 15 minutes.  Vessels must not be left unattended.  Vessels left unattended may be fine.  Further, the ramp and pontoon are available to the public for non for profit purposes only.  Commercial use of the ramp, pontoon, or jetty is not permitted and may result in
