Rain, hail or shine – Our Opti’s will dominate!

WSC wrap up for the 2021 Optimist NSW State Championships
The 2021 Optimist NSW State Championships were held at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club over the weekend of the 20th and 21st of March.

Despite road-closures on the way to the regatta and torrential rain throughout the weekend, 6 races were completed and the event was a great success. Our young club sailors displayed great determination and enthusiasm despite the testing conditions! It was a terrific team to be representing the club!

Out of the 86 sailors entered in the event and a total of 11 clubs across NSW. Woollahra Sailing Club made up a 1/3 of the sailors having a total of 27 sailors compete. It was a huge achievement to have the most participants in the regatta, a proud feat credit to the quality and record numbers of the sailing programs seen during the last terms.

Power outage

Update 6-Mar-2021-1724:  The power is back on and systems checked.  At this stage it appears that everything is working.
Update 6-Mar-2021-1341:  Power should be back by 1700.  Advice from Ausgrid.
Original post 6-Mar-2021-1243: We experienced a minor power disruption yesterday and were informed by Ausgrid that this could be resolved quickly without further disruption and that they would keep us informed of progress.  Unfortunately, overnight they have shut down all power to Vickery Avenue and part of Rose Bay shops.  We were not provided with any warning that this would happen and so were unable to notify members.
The Club continues to operate at nearly normal capacity but the power being out means:

No lights.
No power points.
Cold showers.
No coffee.
The phones are down.
Fob access does not work.
No winch.
Gates need to be manually opened and closed.

This post will be updated with details of progress as such information comes to hand.
We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

WSC Facilities upgrade March 2021

During the month of March, we are undertaking a series of works to upgrade storage, general amenity and other infrastructure at the club.  The goal is to improve the experience of all members.
Please find below notice of some upcoming works!

Storage Improvement
In the south western area of the club, we are replacing rusted elements, improving roof support and drainage, installing fresh foam padding, and adding new rows of Kayak storage. The works will primarily be in Rows B, C and D; as well as the storage rows facing outward toward the general yard.  The changes will provide improved storage and also provide a wider range of storage options.  The goal is to be able to place kayaks in a spot that is well suited to the individual vessel.  These changes will take a few weeks to complete and vessels will need to be moved while the work is done.  Every

Optimist Summer Regatta
With 9 sailors, WSC was the best represented club at the MHYC optimist summer regatta held last weekend over the 23rd and 24th of January.
We had a great mix of conditions with a light wind day of the first day and 15knts on the second day. Special mention goes to Spencer Mackay and Issac Freeman for finishing 2nd and 3rd place overall and Hanako Tomishima taking 1st girl and 5th overall.
In the intermediates Walter Heeley had a fantastic performance finishing in 1st overall with a commanding lead. It was a terrific effort from all competitors.
Our term 1 programs are up on our website and starting this coming week.
