Member Badge Draw – Congratulations Theo!

Congratulations to Theo Theodosi, who won last Friday’s Member Badge Draw, taking home $1,300. In a wonderful show of generosity, Theo has chosen to share his winnings with his regular playing partners — John Dickson, Brian Ainsby and Geoff Pitt.
With the prize now claimed, the Member Badge Draw will reset to $500, increasing by $100 each week until it is won again.
We encourage all members to come down to the club on Fridays after 5pm to enjoy the evening atmosphere. Each week features:

Meat tray and wine raffles
The Golden Egg — just $2 per number, with the winner taking home the entire pot
Great company, good humour, and the warm camaraderie of your fellow members

Join us, relax, and make Friday nights at the club part of your weekly routine!

Help Save Moore Park Golf Club

Dear Friends of Moore Park Golf Club,
We at the Moore Park Golf Club have no intention to submit to the Government’s plan to cut the course to 9 holes, but we need your help by responding to their call to “Have your Say”.
We need as many of your members as possible to respond either by completing the Guided Submission or via Your own submission.
We have attached a document we have prepared for our members, which may be useful to assist your members also. We want to ensure that we are creating a unified message back to the Government that their proposal does not best serve the community.
The Guided Submission questions are very skewed towards a positive response to the Government plan so if your members have time, submitting a personal response using the Your Own Submission portal would be preferable. When responding, it is important to personalise answers and illustrate why an 18-hole golf course is so important and what

Fairway Scarification and Coring

As planned, our annual fairway scarification and coring program will take place on Monday 24, Tuesday 25, and the morning of Wednesday 26.  During this period the golf course will be closed for bookings.
This important maintenance work is essential to maintaining the quality and health of our fairways through the summer months. Scarification and coring help to:

Aerate the soil, improving oxygen flow to the roots.
Enhance drainage, reducing surface water and compaction.
Promote stronger, deeper root growth, leading to more resilient turf.
Encourage new grass growth, helping the fairways recover quickly and stay healthy.
Improve nutrient uptake, ensuring the turf remains vibrant and green throughout the season.

Members may notice that the fairways appear a little dry in the lead-up to the works — this is intentional, as drier conditions produce the best results from the scarification process.
Play will resume on Wednesday 26 from midday. During the recovery period, preferred lies will be in place

Course Works – Taking Shape Beautifully!

Course works kicked off on Tuesday, 7 October, and things couldn’t be going much better. The great weather has helped everything stay right on track, and members will soon start to see the full benefits of the upgrades taking shape.
The enhancements to Hole 8 are now almost complete, with fresh turf laid this week giving the hole a fantastic new look. The drainage system has been expanded and the fairway recontoured to direct water into the new storm water pits and away to the canal — a big improvement that will help keep the hole in great condition year-round. The only items still to come are a new irrigation line along the fence line and some extra turf near the Plane trees halfway up the fairway. Once the turf settles in and establishes its roots, we’re hopeful that Hole 8 will be back in play around Christmas time.
Meanwhile, Hole 9

Redesign of Holes 8 & 9

In March this year, the Club engaged James Wilcher of Golf by Design to assist with the redesign of Hole 9. This project comes in response to long-standing issues with the green surface and surrounding turf, primarily caused by shade from surrounding trees, concentrated traffic on the left exit point, and the placement and condition of the left greenside bunker.
Hole 9 Enhancements
Following consultations with the Match Committee, James recommended the following improvements:

Green site relocation: The green will be slightly lowered and brought forward, giving players a better view from the tee and enhancing the aesthetic.
Bunker repositioning: The left bunker will move towards the centre, improving exit traffic flow and offering fairer recovery options for shots missed left.
Expanded green: A larger green will allow for more pin positions and help distribute wear more evenly.
Teeing area upgrades:

The 9th tee will remain in its current area.
The 18th tee will be moved further back

Life Members Cup

The Life Members Cup was played on Sunday, 21 September, traditionally commencing with a 7:00am shotgun start.
It was an early morning to remember for the winner, Beau Cadet, one of our newest Junior Members. Playing off a handicap of 36, Beau put together a fantastic round of 42 Stableford points, securing a commanding victory.
Michael Antonievich claimed the runner-up spot with a strong score of 39 points.
At the conclusion of play, the Life Members generously treated all participants to a refreshment and a light lunch, which everyone enjoyed before the trophy presentation.
Congratulations to Beau on this impressive achievement — we’re confident this will be the first of many victories. Keep up the great golf!
Captain, Paul Galea with Beau Cadet

Maximum Score – Men’s Competitions

The maximum score scoring for a stroke event being played, was implemented for the qualifying round of the President’s Cup.  The feedback and pace of play results indicated that the new maximum scoring was effective.  The trial will continue for the next medal round scheduled for 6 September.
Members, please make yourself familiar with how to determine the maximum score for each hole as listed below.  The MiScore app indicates your maximum score as shown in the example for Kevin.

The maximum score a player can score or be allocated by the MiScore application is 3 shots above the nett par for each hole.  Nett par for a hole is par + handicap strokes.  Thus, for a par 4, if you get:

no handicap stroke, nett par is 4 – max score is 7
1 handicap stroke. nett par is 5, – max score is 8
2 handicap strokes, nett par is 6. – max

Spring Renovation – Volunteers Needed

Due to the heavy rains this week, we have postponed our spring renovations by one week to allow the course time to dry out.
We are now seeking volunteers to assist with coring the greens on Monday, 1 September 2025. This essential maintenance keeps our course in top condition, and your support makes a big difference!
Session Times

Session 1: 6:30am – 9:00am (6 volunteers needed)
Session 2: 9:00am – 11:30am (6 volunteers needed)

No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to lend a hand. Volunteers will help by shovelling corings from the greens into utility trucks, which will then be taken to designated areas of the course.
As a thank you, refreshments will be provided for all helpers.
If you’re able to assist, please email captain@woollahragolfclub.com
Thank you for supporting the upkeep of our course—we couldn’t do it without you!
