Vale Joy Gallop

Dear Members,
It is with great sadness we advise the passing of Mrs Joy Gallop on Tuesday 1 April.
Joy joined Woollahra Golf Club in 2009 and resigned in 2020.  She enjoyed her time with the Woollahra ladies.
Joy loved her golf and had a passion for sharing her stories with the ladies when she was a member of Royal Canberra GC.  She was one of many ladies to lose her cart in the canal.  She rang her son and in no uncertain terms, told him to come down to the golf club to retrieve it for her.
She helped many new players in the etiquette of golf.
She will be very much missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends.
Joy’s funeral will be held on Thursday, 10 April in St Jude’s Anglican Church, 106 Avoca Street, Randwick at 10am.

Our Board of Directors

We are pleased to introduce the newly appointed Board of Directors at Woollahra Golf Club. Their leadership, expertise, and dedication will be invaluable as we continue to grow and innovate.
After five years of dedicated service, Captain Neil Odze has decided to step down from his position. We extend our deepest gratitude for his invaluable contributions and leadership. While stepping away from the board, we are pleased to share that Neil will remain on the match committee in an advisory position, ensuring his experience and insight continue to benefit our organisation.
Stepping into his role is Paul Galea, and we are confident that his leadership will drive continued success. We also warmly welcome Peter Sulman to the board, whose wealth of knowledge and experience will be a great asset.
All other positions remain unchanged, as they were uncontested.

Fairway Enhancement – Hole 8

We are pleased to inform you that the pile of sand currently located on Hole 8 will be used for the recontouring of the fairway to improve the drainage, with work scheduled to commence in August.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Royal Sydney Golf Club for their generosity in providing this material, resulting in a significant saving for our club and members.
During this period, if your golf ball lands in this area marked by blue lines or blue stakes, it is to be treated as “ground under repair”, and you’re entitled to take free relief from the point where your ball crossed the boundary line.
If you don’t find your ball then it is the point of entry into the GUR area.  If you do find your ball then it is the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole i.e. it may be 20 metres up

A Night of Celebration: Annual Presentation Evening

Our Annual Presentation Trophy Night was a fantastic evening filled with celebration, friendship, and recognition of our outstanding members. A fun night was had by all as we gathered to honor achievements and milestones within our community.
We were especially delighted to welcome our Patron, the Mayor of Woollahra, Sarah Swan, as our special guest to present some of the evening’s prestigious trophies. It was a privilege to have such distinguished support in recognising the dedication and commitment of our members.
A highlight of the night was celebrating those who have reached remarkable milestones – 40 and 50 years of membership.  Their dedication and loyalty to our organization are truly inspiring, and we are grateful for their continued contributions.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the night so special.  We look forward to another great year ahead!

Support Carnarvon Golf Club

Dear Members,
We wanted to bring to your attention a petition currently circulating from Carnarvon Golf Club. The club is seeking support from fellow golf club members to help stop the local council from acquiring part of their land for the neighbouring cemetery, which some of you might have seen on the news.
If you would like to show your support, we encourage you to sign the petition and help protect their course.
You can find the petition here:
https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/la/pages/epetition-details.aspx?q=mox8BNXz1NaOHI_4F3UR5A.

Save Moore Park Golf Course

To the Club President,
Last year we wrote to all the NSW Golf Clubs seeking their support to retain the 18 hole PUBLIC Moore Park golf course. As a result it helped lift our petition to 29,295 signatures, mostly from the Sydney area. Since then we have participated in a NSW Government community survey by submitting an alternative proposal which is consistent with the findings of the survey.
Other golf clubs are also under threat and our cause will help send a message to Government how important golf is to the community. We are seeking to take the petition to 50,000 and to ask every NSW golf club help us achieve that target.
We would appreciate if you could post the attached letter with QR code to your notice boards, pro shop or newsletter and encourage members to get behind this cause.
Please click here to view the Letter to NSW Clubs
Kind Regards John
