Mixed Pennant Results

After three rounds of the Mixed Pennant competition, with 35 clubs represented across seven groups of five, Woollahra Golf Club is very well positioned.
Our group includes Lynwood, Cronulla, Gordon and Pennant Hills.
Each club hosts one match and does not play, meaning all teams contest four away matches, ensuring a level playing field.
Results to date:Match 1: vs Lynwood at Cronulla – Win 4.5–0.5 + Reserve winMatch 2: vs Cronulla at Gordon – Rain abandoned, match halvedMatch 3: vs Gordon at Pennant Hills – Win 3–2 + Reserve win
On 8 February, Woollahra hosts and does not play. Of particular interest, the two other contenders in our group — Cronulla and Pennant Hills — face off against each other on that day.
We then travel to Lynwood on 15 February for our final group match against Pennant Hills, where everything will be decided.
At this stage, it’s shaping up as a three-horse race between Woollahra,

7th Hole Flooding Update

After last weekend’s heavy rain, many Members will have seen “Lake Woollahra” in front of the 7th tee. Many may have thought that this shin deep pond was the runoff from the newly fixed 8th fairway and that the problems had been merely shifted from one hole to the other. But worry not! The big drain on the 7th was blocked with silt and debris from the course works on the 8th and 9th.
Once “Lake Woollahra” was emptied with a pump, the jet blasters were brought in, a lot of organic material was removed, and the drain is now unblocked.  Happily, the 8th fairway was dry and playable by Sunday morning despite the Saturday night drenching, which is a huge improvement on its ability to recover.

Help Save Moore Park Golf Club

Dear Friends of Moore Park Golf Club,
We at the Moore Park Golf Club have no intention to submit to the Government’s plan to cut the course to 9 holes, but we need your help by responding to their call to “Have your Say”.
We need as many of your members as possible to respond either by completing the Guided Submission or via Your own submission.
We have attached a document we have prepared for our members, which may be useful to assist your members also. We want to ensure that we are creating a unified message back to the Government that their proposal does not best serve the community.
The Guided Submission questions are very skewed towards a positive response to the Government plan so if your members have time, submitting a personal response using the Your Own Submission portal would be preferable. When responding, it is important to personalise answers and illustrate why an 18-hole golf course is so important and what

Fairway Scarification and Coring

As planned, our annual fairway scarification and coring program will take place on Monday 24, Tuesday 25, and the morning of Wednesday 26.  During this period the golf course will be closed for bookings.
This important maintenance work is essential to maintaining the quality and health of our fairways through the summer months. Scarification and coring help to:

Aerate the soil, improving oxygen flow to the roots.
Enhance drainage, reducing surface water and compaction.
Promote stronger, deeper root growth, leading to more resilient turf.
Encourage new grass growth, helping the fairways recover quickly and stay healthy.
Improve nutrient uptake, ensuring the turf remains vibrant and green throughout the season.

Members may notice that the fairways appear a little dry in the lead-up to the works — this is intentional, as drier conditions produce the best results from the scarification process.
Play will resume on Wednesday 26 from midday. During the recovery period, preferred lies will be in place

Spring Renovation – Volunteers Needed

Due to the heavy rains this week, we have postponed our spring renovations by one week to allow the course time to dry out.
We are now seeking volunteers to assist with coring the greens on Monday, 1 September 2025. This essential maintenance keeps our course in top condition, and your support makes a big difference!
Session Times

Session 1: 6:30am – 9:00am (6 volunteers needed)
Session 2: 9:00am – 11:30am (6 volunteers needed)

No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to lend a hand. Volunteers will help by shovelling corings from the greens into utility trucks, which will then be taken to designated areas of the course.
As a thank you, refreshments will be provided for all helpers.
If you’re able to assist, please email captain@woollahragolfclub.com
Thank you for supporting the upkeep of our course—we couldn’t do it without you!

Course Closure Procedure – Wet Weather

Closing the golf course is never a decision we take lightly. However, during periods of heavy or prolonged rain it is necessary to protect the playing surfaces and ensure the course remains in good condition for members and guests.
To keep everyone informed, here’s the process Woollahra follows when wet weather impacts play:

Overnight rain: If significant rain falls, the Course Superintendent will inspect the course early the next morning.
Morning update: Between 5.45am and 6.00am, the Superintendent will update the website with the course status.
If unplayable:

The Professional Shop will close the time sheet and remove all member and guest bookings.
A cancellation email will be sent confirming the closure.

Ongoing closures: If rain continues, the website will be updated daily to show the course remains closed.
Re-opening: After rain has cleared, the course will stay closed until it is safe and dry enough to reopen. A decision will be communicated via the website between 5.45am

Sunday Mixed Medley Competition

At the recent Match Committee meeting, it was agreed that Sunday competitions will now be played as a Mixed Medley. This means men and women will compete in the same event, with prizes allocated accordingly.
The Nearest the Pin competition will continue on hole 9/18, open to both men and women. In addition, the popular “Eagles Nest” will also be in play:

To win the Eagles Nest, your tee shot must finish within 30cm of the pin.
If it is not won on the day, the prize jackpot increases by two golf balls each competition until claimed.

We look forward to seeing plenty of friendly competition (and hopefully a few close shots at the pin!) in the weeks ahead.
