After three rounds of the Mixed Pennant competition, with 35 clubs represented across seven groups of five, Woollahra Golf Club is very well positioned.
Our group includes Lynwood, Cronulla, Gordon and Pennant Hills.
Each club hosts one match and does not play, meaning all teams contest four away matches, ensuring a level playing field.
Results to date:Match 1: vs Lynwood at Cronulla – Win 4.5–0.5 + Reserve winMatch 2: vs Cronulla at Gordon – Rain abandoned, match halvedMatch 3: vs Gordon at Pennant Hills – Win 3–2 + Reserve win

We then travel to Lynwood on 15 February for our final group match against Pennant Hills, where everything will be decided.
At this stage, it’s shaping up as a three-horse race between Woollahra,

Edgecliff Shield Winner
Congratulations to Al Malloy on winning the Edgecliff Shield, posting two outstanding rounds of 62 and 67 on Saturdays 17 and 31 January, for a superb total of 129.
Al held off a strong challenge from Robert Yaldwyn, who opened with a 69 before producing an exceptional 63 in round two, finishing on 132, just three shots shy of the title.
A terrific contest and outstanding golf from both players.

Gold Medal Winner
The Gold Medal was contested on Saturday, 7 February, with 22 competitors taking on the challenge for the honour of etching their name into the Club’s history.
Played in hot and humid conditions, it was always going to be a demanding day. Following the completion of the morning field, Alasdair Cameron (Handicap 19) was the clubhouse leader after posting a fine and consistent nett 70. Alasdair went out in 45 and came home in 44, although his round could have been even better if not for a tough finish with a 7 on the final hole.
The afternoon field faced the hottest conditions of the day, and Bobby Broadhurst (Handicap 14) experienced a testing front nine. Despite starting strongly with just two bogeys in his opening six holes, an 8 on the 6th and a 6 on the 7th saw him turn in 43. Bobby showed great composure on the back nine,

Golf Booking Procedures
Members booking spots in public times
A Club runs well when its members are thoughtful and respectful. Woollahra members have the privilege to book into public tee times on the booking sheet with no prepayment required.
For the most part this arrangement, which is a nice benefit of being a Woollahra member, works well. Unfortunately, there are increasing instances of members making bookings for more players than end up being used, failing to cancel their booking in a timely fashion, cancelling at the last minute or worst of all not even turning up at all. This deprives fellow members, as well as members of the public the chance to play and also impacts on the Club’s ability to generate revenue.
Members are asked to book carefully and to inform the Proshop if there are changes to the booking. If members do not do the right thing on more than one occasion, they will

7th Hole Flooding Update
After last weekend’s heavy rain, many Members will have seen “Lake Woollahra” in front of the 7th tee. Many may have thought that this shin deep pond was the runoff from the newly fixed 8th fairway and that the problems had been merely shifted from one hole to the other. But worry not! The big drain on the 7th was blocked with silt and debris from the course works on the 8th and 9th.
Once “Lake Woollahra” was emptied with a pump, the jet blasters were brought in, a lot of organic material was removed, and the drain is now unblocked. Happily, the 8th fairway was dry and playable by Sunday morning despite the Saturday night drenching, which is a huge improvement on its ability to recover.

Edgecliff Shield & Monthly Medal
Dear Members,
With the forecast indicating an extreme heat event, with temperatures expected to reach approximately 42 degrees, the Match Committee has reviewed this weekend’s golf in line with the Golf Australia Heat Guidelines (view here). These guidelines recommend considering postponement to a cooler part of the day or cancellation when temperatures are expected to reach 36 degrees or above.
With this in mind, the Match Committee has made the decision to postpone the first round of the Edgecliff Shield and the January Monthly Medal.
Please note that the competition scheduled for this Saturday will proceed as a regular Stableford and 2BBB event.
This was not an easy call, and we understand the disappointment this may cause. However, the wellbeing of our members must always come first. A round of golf involves prolonged time outdoors, physical exertion, and exposure to the sun, and in temperatures of this level the risk of heat related illness
New Teeing Area – Hole 6
Members will notice the addition of a new tee on Hole 6, positioned to the right of the existing tee and adjacent to the drinking fountain. This new teeing area has been created for social play only.
The relocation of this tee aims to reduce the risk of golf balls entering the adjoining rugby union oval. With golf participation continuing to grow and more players accessing the course, we have received reports of an increase of golf balls landing on the playing field. By shifting the tee to the right, players are naturally directed further away from the oval, opening up the intended line of play and helping improve safety for those using the sporting fields.
Looking ahead, the Board has plans to undertake a full renovation of the Hole 6 tee complex in the New Year, subject to available funding. The proposed redesign will include the creation of three new teeing
