Kids Giving Back

We were delighted to hear from Kids Giving Back about Benjamin who joined a team of 55 Kids Giving Back volunteers who cooked, packaged and delivered over 450 warm, nutritious meals to local shelters and individuals in need yesterday.

Benjamin took part in their Community Cook4Good Program and is commended for giving up time to help others. Additional photos are on their facebook page  and more info about the program is available on the Kids Giving Back website.

SRC induction

Last week the students of Rose Bay were packed into the Gym for the Annual SRC assembly. There, many students finally got to meet the new principal and deputy principal. The new school principal, Ms Bright originates from the inner west and has made her way eastward, eventually arriving here on the coast. She imparted upon the students her guide to success which involved a lot of smiling and kindness. To continue on that bright theme the school band performed “Walking on Sunshine”, complete with a swaying quartet of singers, the tonic notes of the saxophone and the somehow pre-organised humming that resonated from the Yr7’s on the Mezzanine.

Tech learning resources available online

Each term, T4L provides online resources that have some great tech solutions for the classroom.

T4L Kids

T4L Kids magazine is a self-guided independent learning resource created by teachers for students, for class or home. The aim is to provide students with purposeful challenges that engage them in creating content and enhance their problem-solving skills using technology.

In the latest issue students are invited to take the challenge to design, then develop an app for a real-life client, like Transport for NSW. With a guided video brief from their potential client, students will prototype a transport app and take it further by developing it into a real-life app.

More advanced students can code their apps and bring them to life. This challenge comes with guided student resources around app design, inclusive design and tools for coding. They’ll have everything they need to get started on their app adventure.

This app design challenge offers a real-world problem and asks students to find a real-world solution and supports design thinking and computational thinking skills.

 T4L Magazine (for teachers)

T4L Magazine is designed for use in the classroom and staffroom and provides an easy snapshot of tech solutions with links to boost digital knowledge. The new issue of the magazine will be released in Week 7 of Term 3. The Term 2 issue investigates new innovations in our lab, with tips on ways to create a more accessible classroom.
