Masked Group Caught on Camera Checking Doors and Windows at Rose Bay Homes

Security cameras have captured three masked individuals approaching homes in Rose Bay, checking doors and windows and crouching behind bushes as a car passed along a residential street.

The incidents occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 October 2026. Police confirmed they received a break-and-enter report with nothing stolen and said the same group was believed to have attempted to enter two other nearby properties.

Security cameras capture movements between homes

Footage circulated through local community groups reportedly showed the three individuals wearing balaclavas, gloves and dark clothing as they approached residential properties. One recording showed a person testing a window before walking away, while another captured members of the group crouching behind bushes as a car passed.

A resident said security cameras across two residential blocks had recorded the group’s movements. Her own cameras captured the individuals approaching a neighbouring property, although her home was left untouched.

At another home, an individual reportedly entered through an unlocked laundry window before the security alarm sounded, prompting the person to flee.

The resident, whose own home had been broken into approximately four years earlier, expressed concern about the incidents and urged neighbours to lock their doors and activate their alarms overnight.

Police seek information about masked group

Police described the individuals as males of thin build, believed to be aged from their late teens to early 20s. They were reportedly wearing face coverings, jackets, long trousers, gloves and shoes.

According to police, the group was seen in a black SUV travelling north from Rose Bay. The published account did not identify the streets where the incidents occurred.

Greater Sydney records decline in residential break-ins

Official crime statistics show that recorded residential break-ins across Greater Sydney declined in the two years to June 2026.

The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research reported a 5.8 per cent fall in break-and-enter dwelling offences across Greater Sydney during that period. The figures cover the wider metropolitan area rather than Rose Bay specifically.

Unlocked windows remain a security concern

NSW Police residential security advice recommends securing external doors and windows, installing security lighting and trimming vegetation around entry points to reduce places where intruders could conceal themselves.

Police also recommend using window locks, securing garages and considering monitored intruder alarms. Their home security guidance advises householders to test alarm systems regularly and keep doors and windows locked even when alarms are installed.

Anyone with information about the Rose Bay incidents has been urged to contact Waverley Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
